Sunglasses, Picking The Right Ones For You

Shopping for sunglasses is more than just trying on a bunch of pairs and looking in the mirror, these guidelines will help you make a more informed choice. What about UV protection? Durability? Visibility? The shape of your head and face? There is a lot more to shopping for sunglasses than just looking your best!
 
First and most important is ......Protect your eyes! TOO much exposure to UV radiation can cause a lot of problems. We want to take care of your eyes and try to prevent bad things such as cataracts, burns, and cancer.
 
 
You want your sunglasses to help protect you from these things,Try to look for sunglasses that block at least 99% of UVB rays and at least 95% of UVA rays.
Do not buy then if they are simply labeled as "cosmetic" or if they don't give any information on UV protection.

Find Your Style

There are so many shapes and Style of Sunglasses  Here are a few popular styles:
 

  • Mirrorshades ... Mirrored coating on surface. A lot of aviator style sunglasses come this way as well as many wraparound sports sunglasses.
  • Aviators .... Teardrop-shaped lens and thin metal frames. Best with an oval shape face.Often used by pilots and military personnel, also used by many law enforcement agencies in the US.


  • Wayfarers.....although they were made popular in the 1950s and 1960s, they are still in style even today.
  • Teashades ......Popularized by John Lennon  they are not very good at keeping the light out.
  • Wraparounds ......Sports sunglasses associated with athletics and extreme sports.


  • Oversized........Large lenses very popular in high fashion circles.

    Make sure the sunglasses fit properly. Try them on and make sure they don't pinch around your head. The weight should be evenly distributed between your ears and nose, and your eyelashes shouldn't touch the frame or lenses.
